Rachel Adelson speaks on the topic, Knowledge is Empowering: Communicating Across
Cultures, Languages and Technologies.
Rachel is the president of
Live Wire Communications, a Raleigh-based company that brings news about
science and technology to a wider audience. For more than 20 years, she has
popularized important but complex information for industry, academia,
scientists and engineers. Her client roster includes the American
Psychological Association, the nation's second-biggest scientific
organization; Discovery Communications Inc., parent company of the Discovery
Channel, Animal Planet and TLC; MacNeil-Lehrer Productions; and the National
Multiple Sclerosis Society. Local clients include Duke University and
various departments at NC State University.
Rachel founded Live Wire
Communications in 1992 and three years later launched her acclaimed column,
Live Wire: Computer Confidence for Women, now available on her Web site.
Prior to 1992, Rachel spent 10 years as a senior communications specialist
and program manager with IBM, specializing in networking computing,
telecommunications and business strategy.
She is an award-winning
speechwriter and former editor of IBM Management Report and IBM Horizons,
the magazine for readers who developed and built IBM products around the
