President's Message from Michelle Evans | Club President 2011-2012

Where does one begin to elaborate on issue impacting women in 2011?  Given our difficult economic climate, backsliding on basic women’s rights, and increased stress, women are forced to assess their situation, pull themselves up with all the strength they have, and find ways to make everyday life better.  Surviving difficult circumstances, adapting to one’s surroundings, and achieving success bring me to our BPW/Raleigh

2011-2012 theme, “Adapt, Grow, Achieve.”

This year, BPW/Raleigh celebrated our 92nd anniversary.  It is hard, even for me, to imagine 92 years of dedication shown by our members.

Certainly, women continue to struggle with equal rights as evidenced by both national and international events.  In the United States, women fight discrimination daily.  In fact, women in North Carolina do not enjoy equal rights under the law.

During the course of the last 92 years, women have made great strides, both personally and professionally, but our journey is not complete.

BPW/Raleigh continues to build on our strengths and provide the support we need to find fulfillment in our futures.  Having endured a difficult economic year, our members are adapting to their surroundings, growing professionally and personally, and achievement is near.  My sincere hope is for you to visit our club to find all the tools you will need in your toolkit to master your own future. Catherine Beecher, an American Educator and Reformer, once stated “…it is the right and duty of every woman to employ the power of organization and agitation in order to gain those advantages which are given to the one sex and unjustly withheld from the other.”

Best personal wishes for every success,

Michelle Evans

BPW/Raleigh President
