BPW Dinner Meeting - January 26, 2010
"Career and Business Growth for These Changing Times"

Make 2010 the Best Year of Your Life

Speaker Mary CantandoSuccessful entrepreneur, Mary Cantando, has an unusual mantra: "Never ask HOW will I get to do this, but WHO will I get to do this?"

As an acclaimed author, speaker, and national magazine columnist who focuses on women entrepreneurs, Mary found herself inundated with requests for personal mentoring. And while she wanted to help as many women as possible, she just didn't have the time.

So she responded to those ongoing mentoring requests by asking "WHO will I get to do this?" Her answer to that question was to collect advice from other women entrepreneurs and bring those great ideas to life in The Woman's Advantage Shared Wisdom Calendar at  www.WomansAdvantage.biz/calendar. The calendar consists of 365 great ideas-one for each day of the year-each providing a daily learning experience for women just like you. Daily calendar advice includes:

  • "Each day is not about what you tried to do; it's about the results."
  • "You get what you tolerate."
  • "In hiring, remember that an empty house is better than a bad tenant."
  •  "As women we are always juggling. Your job is to recognize which balls in the air are rubber and which are glass."

To share the "best of the best" from her upcoming 2010 calendar, Mary will be presenting a fast-paced, thought-provoking session "10 Ways to Make This The Best Year of Your Life." In this session, she will share 10 key concepts and discuss how you can use them to expand your business and your life.

Join us on January 26 and learn how you can put great tips like these to work every day of the year.

Wondering whether or not you should attend this unique session? Here's advice from yet another woman quoted in The Woman's Advantage Calendar: "You can make excuses or you can make money, but you absolutely can't make both!"

The Triangle BPW will be volunteering again this year to answer phones in the live TV studio for UNC TV We are planning for Saturday, March 6, for the afternoon shift, which I believe is 2:30pm until 7:00pm.  It is fun, and they feed you, and you don't need to work very hard, and if we have 20 volunteers, they will give us two 30 second spots sometime during the broadcast to tell folks who we are, and what we do...good PR for BPW!

If you, your family, your friends are interested in participating with the Triangle BPW, please contact Linda Karolak at LindaAnn.Karolak@na.biomerieux.com

PechaKucha Raleigh open call for presentations

We want to hear your ideas. We do, really! But the catch is we want to hear it PechaKucha style. What's that you say? Well, PechaKucha (pronounced roughly: pe-chak-cha) is a way to share powerful ideas in a fast-paced, high-energy manner: 20 slides presented for 20 seconds each. That's 6 minutes and 40 seconds to get your point across. How cool is that?

Why should you submit a presentation?

  • You'll be able to share your idea with other super cool folks and thought leaders in the community in a fun relaxed environment
  • Your idea could change thinking, empower change, inspire innovation and build a stronger community
  • It doesn't cost a thing to present or attend
  • It will make you feel good

Here's what you need to do to submit

Write a sentence or two about your idea and provide one (1) low-res supporting image (.jpg, jpeg, or .gif file ONLY) then e-mail us at pknraleigh@gmail.com.

Calendar

  • Deadline for proposals is March 9, 2010
  • Call for Proposals : Dec 4, 2009 thru March 9, 2010
  • Final Presentations Due : March 16, 2010
